August 2001 Bios

bulletBeverly Jean (Bev) (Beall) Kempkey, born 9-23-1926  in Oakland, CA, Alameda county.
As a teacher she helped children learn for 28 years.  Retired and became a volunteer visitor to the sick in our local hospital. After Ed’s death (1990) these experiences lead her to chaplaincy as the way to express her gratitude for all the blessings in her life.  She needed a masters of divinity to become certified.  While in the seminary she took chaplain training in the summer and learned massage to use with the homeless women and the HIV center in Oakland.  She did her residency at Stanford Medical Center and the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital.  She is a certified chaplain by Association of Protestant Chaplains and a member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.  She went to Texas to the Covenant Medical Center in 1997.  Because of her teaching skills, 500 hours of massage, and chaplain training, she was sent to a German school in Florida for 8 weeks to become a lymph edema therapist.  She developed the lymph edema department in the cancer center and then after 2 years she went full time ministry in the 1400 bed hospital.  Yes,  she is an active chaplain and plans to be in either hospital or hospice ministry.

Bev's credentials are now: Administrative credential in education, M.A. in reading and an M.A. in Divinity
