Phil - 02

Shane Family News
and
Phil does 'House of Blues, Anaheim, CA March 25th

Phil will be doing a 'One Man Show' at the House of Blues, Anaheim, March 25th.  Doors open at 8 PM, show starts at 9PM.  The documentary 'The Wonder of Phil' was accepted into the Newport Film Festival, which run the first week of April.
Phil

Bad News:  Phil's mom took a turn for the worse with a heart attack that left her with 3 cracked vertebrae.  She is in a board and care facility right now.  Three of her main arteries are totally blocked and surgery is too risky.  The radiation from her lung cancer left the heart tissue damaged.  We are heading back to Mississippi on March 10th through the 20th.

BIRTHDAYS: Julie and James turned 24 on February 25th.  Julie and James (her husband- tricky when there are more than one James' in the family) came out to Vegas from their home in Tennessee to celebrate.  James (our son) couldn't make it, but we'll see him in a couple of weeks when we travel back to Orange County.

Phil's Mom, Louise, had her 79th birthday on Feb. 22nd.     2-27-03

John Paul - Dec 02

Jean Paul goes to state finals in Clovis, CA April 12
Theme is 'structures and engineering'
All family are welcome to attend.  Contact Kathy.

John Paul Frehner is the team captain for his elementary school's Destination Imagination  5 member team. The team's theme is "structures and engineering" and they have had to come up with and build a design for a structure a min. 7 " tall and no more than 9" tall and have at least 3 connections and not weigh more than 50 grams and be made out of a natural wood product. The kicker is that it has to withstand a load of 500 lbs!!!! Since they were the only elementary school to field a team locally and regionally, they will automatically advance to the State Finals in Clovis, CA   April 12. The team has been working every Friday afternoon with 2 dads since October and so far their structure can withstand 350 lbs. They will continue to work right up until Clovis in April. In addition to the structure, during the competition they are asked to improv. a skit and song regarding their work and theme and are given the parameters on the spot. Having that Colthurst talent for being quick thinking and opinionated and the Irish gift of gab, John Paul was a natural choice for team captain. We welcome family members to come join us in Clovis April 12 to root John Paul and his team on!  2-17-03

Kathy Turns 40 In Style

On Jan 1st, Kathy turned 40 and her dear brother Richard and his wife gave her and the boys and her Mom two ocean view rooms for 2 nights at the Ritz-Carlton at Laguna Dec 31 - Jan 2.  Richard made lots of special arrangements for them, including New Year's Eve dinner at the hotel, and her brother David came and joined them. Richard and Lollie and kids were in Orlando at Walt Disney World for New Year's Eve. They loved lounging around and had beautiful weather for New Year's! Kathy now thinks all of the Beall cousins have crossed the 40 threshold and they are onto the next generation. Congrats on the BIG 40! - Jan-03

Tommy  - Dec 01

Tommy Elected Pres of Alameda County Sheriff's Assoc

Tommy was elected president of the alameda county department sheriff's association.  It is a 900 member organization and he will be president for three years.  It's a BIG job and he will be very busy.  Congratulations Tommy!  12-23-02

Rich - Dec 02

Rich Has Kidney Stone Attack on Christmas

Rich left the Chatigny Christmas gathering in San Jose early to go to the emergency in Santa Rosa, 2 1/2 hours away.    He's got a kidney stone that's passing, so he went to get a morphine shot.  Poor guy.  Some of us thought something was wrong because he wasn't himself all day.  Check photo.  He's resting comfortably today and drinking lots of water.  Rich is thankful that the stone is passing now instead of after his knee surgery in January.  Yes, that would be a worse  ouch. 12-26-02

Jerri  - Dec 02

Jerri gets broken nose reset    AND    Bob gets ready for Angioplasty

Jerri got her broken nose fixed today and is resting comfortably.  She tripped on some stairs at a friends house a few weeks ago.  Ouch!  She had facial cuts, contusions, and a broken nose in several places.  Bob was with her and took her to the emergency room, and then the doctors office all the next day.  They both say they are lucky because it could have been worse.  12-18-02

Bob gets ready for his heart angioplasty, which is set for Jan 9, 2003.  He's not been going to the gym or skiing until he gets 'a tune-up'.  12-19-02

Michlene and Phil -- Dec 2002

Phil gets contract extended and they moved to Vegas

Phil has been extended at the Tropicana Casino to 5 nights per week in the Tropics Lounge (Wed through Sun).  They moved to Vegas around Sep this year and are now settling in.  Michlene ways 'we love Vegas'.  Yes, and Vegas apparently loves them.  Now, does this mean they are opening up a bed and breakfast for all of us?  Sounds like fun. 10-20-02

Michelle and Rick - Dec 2002

Michelle Buys Vacation Home in Lake Tahoe, NV

Michelle loves Lake Tahoe and purchased a vacation home on the north shore, Nevada side.  She says she'll stay there several months out of the year and work out of Reno instead of always working out of Vegas.  Oh, the jet set now.  Rumor has it that she's decked it with the latest electronic gadgets and all the nieces and nephews are taking her up on her offer to visit her.  Looks like she may have more company in the near future than she bargained for.  First planned trip is January.  Kids don't waste any time, eh?  11-02

Susan and Sterling - Oct 2002

Susan Goes to the World Series, Game 2 in Anaheim, CA

Of course, we know who Susan and son Sterling was rooting for, eh?  It was a great game.   The Angels did beat the Giants.  10-20-02

Bob and Jerri at Whiskey Creek 10-02

Bob and Jerri Beall - How Sweet it is - Bob and Jerri at Whiskey Creek waiting for Mon night football - 10-09-02

Bob and Jerri enjoy a glass of wine at Whiskey Creek in Mammoth while waiting for Monday night football.  Ah, the life!  They went camping in the Sierras and toured all around Mammoth for 'fall colors'.  They've been enjoying the grand kids and Jerri had her 50th Class reunion in San Bernardino.  Bob's comment was 'Thank God we have not changed. Ha Ha Ha!'.  Nope, they haven't changed a bit!  Glad they are enjoying the good life.  10-14-02

Bob and Jerri Beall Celebrate Their 45th Anniversary

Jerri gave Bob a cute card that said they've had '45 yrs of happiness plus or minus a few'.   They celebrated their special day by going out to dinner at Las Brisas restaurant in Laguna Beach.  They enjoyed reminiscing about the delights of 45 years of marriage along with the sunset and their romantic dinner.  Believe it or not, they mentioned me in their conversation.  When asked how I entered into their conversation, Bob just laughed.  I guess we'll never know. - 8-10-02

Bev, Jerri, Bob in golf cart at Reunion 2002

Bev Breaks Hip - Hospitalized for Awhile

Bev tripped over a table in her house and broke her hip.  Ouch.   She will be in the Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa for several weeks.  You can send cards to Queen of the Valley Hospital, 1000 Trancas, Napa, CA or you can call her at 707-252-4411.  Bev, we wish you a speedy recovery and hope that all mends smoothly.  Looks like you'll be watching for tables and small items for quite some time, eh?  Happy speedy recovery, Bev.  We love you! - 8-10-02

Phil

Phil Plays Vegas PERMANENTLY - at the Tropicana

Michlene called and said that 'Vegas loves Phil' and the Tropicana is keeping him on permanently.  They are thinking of relocating to Vegas because there is no need to keep up two homes.  They currently reside in the greater LA area.  Wow, from a 3 day gig to permanent is quite an accomplishment.  Congratulations to Phil and Michlene.  You have both worked so hard to to be so  successful.  We all hope that you get to enjoy your success.  So, all of you headed for Vegas, stop by and say HI to your cousin Michlene and hubby Phil AND enjoy the show.  I saw a taping of one of his shows and he is an outstanding entertainer.  Congrats again!  - 8-5-02

Mary Harding

Michelle Chatigny

Mary Harding Celebrates Her 'FieFie' (50th) With Chatigny Humor

Mary was thrown a surprise Birthday brunch, a beautiful birthday dinner at Lake Juno, and Birthday celebration that was out of control.  Poppers, noise makers, string confetti, confetti, and lots of yelling and merry making.  I think you can tell by the photos that the birthday bash was truly that, a bash.  The party was so much fun and everyone laughed so hard.  Actually, some were doubled over with laughter as seen in bottom left.  Michelle had the perfect platform for spraying the confetti because she was on the same level as Mary and got her good (color was green).  Mary was truly surprised and had no idea that the day was all planned way in advance just for her.  She is one very happy and very lucky sister to have such a nice, loving, and crazy family.  - 7-13-02

Michelle Chatigny Has New Beau

Michelle introduced her new beau, Rick, at the annual Chatigny family gathering in Mammoth.  Ah, true love.  They are a darling couple.  Seems they have very similar tastes and life styles.  Everyone in the family  loves him and wish them all the best.  Rick is also a hell of a cook.  The two are pictured on the fishing dock at Lake Mary.  It's obvious who the fisherman is, eh?  Yep, he caught the largest fish that day and Richard Chatigny and Dave Harding went crazy.  They fished all day to try and catch up, and the next day, and the next day.  Richard and Dave will not be beaten, but they did go home with a few small fish.  Way to go Rick!  And Rick is the guy who put his tackle box together the night before the guys went fishing!  - 7-11-02

Reunion 2002

This was such a great reunion.  We all really got to know one another very well in a relaxed environment and we got to spend quality time with each other.  The laughter was ramped and gained momentum as this special day moved on.  Truly a day that no one will ever forget.  Thanks to all that came and we are all looking forward to the next time when we can get together and do it again.  - 7-6-02

Suzanne & John Paul

John Paul Now Topping the Adults

John Paul Frehner is now as tall as some adults in our family!  Just look at what ONE year does to someone!  Congrats to John Paul on such a huge growing spout in such a small time.  I'm sure he'll be taller than his Dad the next time I see him! - 7-6-02

Mark Chatigny

Mark Chatigny Receives Bionic Knee

Mark receives new bionic knee.  His old one gave out.  He was in a motor cycle accident as a teen, had a knee operation, and  years later, it caught up to him.  Operations 30 years ago did not have the technology to fully refurbish the injured knee at the time, so he's now paying the price, or is he?  My take of a bionic knee is that he'll be better than all of us once he gets used to his new knee.  I'm sure they won't let him kick the football over the goal post for fear that they'd never see the football again.  Keep up the good work on your physical therapy, Mark, but don't kick the therapists too hard!  On the serious side, Mark has had 2 operations and is currently in some 'heavy' physical therapy.  To send Mark cards, send me an email for his address. - 6/7-02

Tommy and Trina

Baby Emily Madigan Born Today!

Tommy and Trina just gave birth to a 6 pound baby girl this afternoon, May 7th, 2002.  Her name is Emily Madigan.  Welcome Emily!  Our newest member of the J.E. Colthurst Family.  Grandpa Tom is sending everyone happy faces with his announcement today.  We have some very proud parents and grandparents.  Congratulations to Tommy, Trina, and little Emily!  - 5-7-02

Michlene and Phil

Phil Plays Vegas AGAIN! - March until June 2nd - at the Tropicana

Yes, Phil plays Vegas AGAIN at the Tropicana.   The Tropicana has  continued to extend him because he is making such a huge splash.  Looks like he'll be there until June 2nd, if not beyond.  WOW!  Although both Michlene and Phil are extremely excited, Phil has got to be walking on cloud nine with such successful repeat performances.  Remember, he started with just a 2 day gig!  Congrats to all.  For those that would like more info, contact Michlene.  And for those going to Vegas, stop by and say HI, because you now know a celebrity!     PS. Phil is on the cover of an Orange County news magazine and of course, is featured in the magagine.  Article is: http://ocweekly.com/ , put 'phil shane' in the search list' and click on search, then click on 'Church of Phil' OR Phil in the News. - 4-16-02

Dustin and Christy

Dustin Recovering / Mariah's 6th Birthday / Christy's News

Hubby Dustin is still recovering from a broken foot that he broke the first week of February.  Looks like he's getting lots of love and tender care from his family.  Their daughter, Mariah, celebrated her 6th birthday last month on March 8th.  Happy 6th, Mariah!  And Christy is currently working on getting a Girl Scout Troop together for her daughter, which she will be starting up in August, and of course, she will be the troop leader.  Happy trails to the new Troop!  It's so nice to hear what the young folks are doing, huh?  And take care of yourself, Dustin. - 4-16-02

Mariah - now 6 yrs old

Michlene and Phil

Phil Plays Vegas - March 4-5th - Tropicana

Yes, Phil plays Vegas at the Tropicana this coming March 4th and 5th.  Both Michlene and Phil are extremely excited.  It will be Phil's first time playing Vegas.  Michlene could hardly wait to tell me this morning.  Congratulations to Phil!  Michlene, take some pictures for us so we can get him in the news.  Way to go, Phil!  Looks like Michlene and Phil are twice blessed: first Phil's Mom makes a fantastic recovery from lung cancer and Phil gets this awesome job in Vegas.  Congrats to all.  For those need more info, contact Michlene - 2-16-02

Phil's Mother Recovering
Phil Norton's Mother is DOING FANTASTIC!  (Phil is married to Michlene (Colthurst)).  In August, she was diagnosed with lung cancer, which is similar to what Lollie's Mother had.  She went through the chemo and radiation treatments and today, they said there was no trace of tumor or cancer anywhere.  It is truly a miracle.  Prayers and wishes for recovery all worked.   - 2-16-02

Pam, friend of Jerri's, and Jerri

Bob and Jerri Ski News
Jerri went skiing with her friend Pam at Mammoth and got caught in a complete 'white out'.  As you can see from the picture, they are minutes away from a blinding storm.  They skied a great day, 12-14-Facelift, Stump Alley, Roller Coaster, Broadway Express, and runs in between, until the storm at 2pm, when they couldn't see a thing, with or without goggles.  Scary.  They were very lucky they found their way to the nearest watering hole, McCoy Station, and got something cold to drink.  Close one, Jerri!  Note the white background in the picture to the right! - 2-15-02

Andrew with his new invention

Andrew Zazzi Launches Own Company
Andrew, President and CEO of x-edge left Saturday with several friends and business associates for the largest trade show for winter products for 2002.  When I called at noon, they already had the booth setup this morning, complete with a chairlift and boots so that people can test out his product.  They are all staying at Aunt Michelle's, (Michelle Chatigny) who just landed late last night from London and is dragging herself to the grocery store today with jet lag just so that she can get the place stocked and go to bed.  She's looking forward to the 'really big show' and will be attending shortly.  Pictures, itinerary, commentary, etc., coming shortly.  PS. Molly, Alyson: Guess who Andrew got as a model for his photo shoot?  Take a look at the picture to the left.  Yep, you guessed it, no cuties!  What a drag.  I hope his booth is better stocked.  - 1-28-02

John and Victoria

John Beall and Victoria Talk Marriage

Rumor has it that John and Victoria are talking MARRIAGE ....AND...  they are currently looking to buy a house in Tucson, Arizona.  John got a job with the City of Tucson in the Planning Department as a planner in Oct 2001, and is now only teaching 1 class at the community college, Writing 101.  I wonder if John knows that Mark Chatigny's and Peter Anderegg's family (Cathy Carson's husband) lives in Tucson?  Why, if any more people move down there, we could be talking a reunion there.  The Colthurst sites are open and we are hoping John gets a big house with lots of land so the relatives can descend on him in mass.  Wow, from bachelor to husband to host.  Can you believe?  - 1-21-02

Tom and Lynne

Tom Madigan Retires
Tom Madigan retires, 1-19-2001.  The retirement dinner was held at the Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, CA and attended by family and close friends.  The evening was enlightening in that all 12 of the retirees (officers, Lieutenants, Sergeants, and Captains) were sad to leave the police force and will miss their jobs and friends after 30 years.  Is there any other job, seriously, where people are sad to leave?  In Silicon Valley, hey, people leave their jobs every 6 to 12 months and if they don't, there is something wrong with them.  In Silicon Valley, no one is ever happy and no one has ever lasted 30 years in the same job.  Impossible.  And no one retires with a pension or retirement pay.  So, my hat is off to Tom Madigan and the Alameda Police Department.  They must be doing something very right over there!   Tom now joins Lynne in retirement.  I wonder if they will be jetting anywhere and start taking it easy?  I'll keep you all posted.  -

The Frehners

The Frehners are Sick

'We have been SICK-VERY SICK!!! George has had blood and puss coming out of his ears since Dec. 18-have had 3 middle of night ER trips-plus 1 daytime one-John Paul got hit by a log of firewood on his forehead and it took stitches-I got sick Christmas night (although we had a nice Christmas) and have been in bed for a week-very difficult to do when you have 3 boys home on vacation-Thank God they were sick too!!!'  Kathy  ...... I can attest to their sickness.  Kathy's been in bed for awhile and sounds like death warmed over.  Guess she wasn't kidding when she said that she was happy the boys were sick too!  Take it easy guys.... - 1-3-02

Brian and Maggie

The Kelly's Return From Peru

Brian and Maggie Kelly and family just returned from a few weeks in Peru.  Ah, the life of just taking off and having fun.  Looks like they have plenty of time on their hands and are making the most of it.  They brought back some wonderful warm slippers for our birthday gal, aunt Bev.  She's one happy camper right now with these new slippers, however, her neck has been bothering her and she may have to have surgery.  Not fun.  She'll keep us posted on her condition. - 1-3-02

Lawrence

Lawrence Frehner Has Artwork Published

Lawrence Frehner recently had a piece of artwork published in the November/December issue of "Surprises" magazine, a national children's magazine.  His piece is a pastel line drawing of a parrot.  Lawrence LOVES birds since he has one himself (a cockatiel name Junior).  Lawrence is very excited.  This is BIG STUFF for a 7 year old!  Congratulations Lawrence!  Way to go.  - 12-14-01

Tommy and Trina

Tommy and Trina Madigan are Expecting

Tommy and Trina Madigan are expecting.  Due date is May 2001.  Much excitement in the air and this will be Tom and Lynne Madigan's first grandchild!  Congratulations to all and we're looking forward to some cute baby pictures!  12-11-01

Cookie Bonjour

Sadly, Cookie Bonjour Goes to Doggie Heaven

Sad news.  Cookie Bonjour, an 18 yr old Lasha Apso,  went to doggie heaven on December 8th.  Our prayers and thoughts are with the Bonjours as they go through this very difficult time.  Cookie came down with some serious doggie illness on Nov 12th,  was given medication and sent home to the Bonjour Convalescent Hospital,  where she was catered to and hugged and loved and pampered 24x7.  She recovered, but never fully.   12-8-01

Looks like the Christmas contest will be interesting this year.  Peter Anderegg has a train that he decorates in a small village and adds to it each year.  The Bonjours have THE tree and THE nutcrackers, and the Zazzi's have a little village, complete with hills, snow, people, street lights, trees, and the latest addition, a small reindeer and train.  Each person or group of people coming into the house gets to play the game of 'find the reindeer'.  Rumor has it that the little town square is in need of a fiber optic lit large Christmas tree.  That just might knock the socks off of Peter's village.   The December contest is open to everyone, regardless of the size of the decorations.  If you've got a twig, come and submit your entry!  Remember, there are 2 contests: Outdoor and indoor.  Come and join the fun and share your Christmas with the rest of us! - 11-22-01

Monique and Jules are starting early to get ready for their 5th Christmas Eve.  The tree was purchased before Thanksgiving and decoration begins the day after.  A tree that big is almost like decorating the one at Union Square or Pier 39 in S.F.  I'm sure she'll have plenty of volunteers to help with the monumental task.  Rumor has it that she's going to invite the whole family!  We're talking about 125 people here, family only!  Rumor also has it that a very special addition to their Christmas collection of .... is still in the front closet and has been admired by Jules everyday.  He's waiting for the perfect moment to take it out for Christmas.  Well, we know it's not a car.... it's a ...... (any guesses?)  - 11-22-01

Bob and Jerri Beall are celebrating Thanksgiving at their condo in Mammoth with their 2 kids and family and hoping for snow to get some early skiing in before the crowds arrive.  The Bob Colthursts are celebrating their traditional Thanksgiving at Alice's in San Francisco.  The Hardings, Zazzi's and Mark senior are celebrating at the Hardings while Michelle Chatigny and Greg will be joining the Mark Chatigny's in Tucson, Az, and Andrew Zazzi has chosen to fly to N.Y. to visit an old friend.  Inquiring minds want to know if he'll get back anytime soon.  The news has it that they want everyone 4 hours early for any flight out of N.Y.  Now, what are the rest of you doing?  11-22-01

Rich

Rich Chatigny Retires Football Cleats

Rich Chatigny has retired his football and cleats.  Seems he badly twisted his leg the day after Joe Chatigny's High School Graduation celebration, 10-28-01.  He's been in a walking cast for several weeks and surgery on his knee and surrounding area is scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving, 11-23-01.  Surgery will be exploratory, since MRI didn't show anything conclusive.  We wish him well and hope that the surgery is a success.  11-22-01  Update 11-23-01: Rich is doing well.  Surgery was just the 'scopy' surgery to repair a partially torn ACL (ligament).  He, and the doctors, were prepared for major surgery.  One lucky guy!  11-23-01

Jenifer Kelly and Manual are Engaged

Jenifer Kelly is engaged!  Jen's love is Manual.  Sources say it happened this weekend and Dad is getting a little nervous as father of the bride #1 begins.  10-28-01

Joe with Dad Rich

Joe Chatigny Graduates A Year Early From High School

Joe Chatigny's High School Graduation celebration was this Saturday, 10-27-01.  He graduated 1 year early and is ready for college.  Everyone is so proud of him and all that he has accomplished in the past 3 years. We were all there to wish him well, including Rich's best friends, Doug and Kathy Hodges and their 15 yr. old daughter, Heather.  Rich has known Doug and Kathy since High School in San Lorenzo, 1974 and 1975.   Congratulations Joe!  Way to go.  And sources say you got the keys to one very special vehicle for your graduation present!  10-27-01

Michlene and Phil Are Planning A Northern CA Visit This January

Michlene and Phil are planning on visiting the northern several Colthurst families this coming January, so, get ready!  Dust off your glassware and stock your bars, cause they're a 'comin.  They feel bad that they weren't able to make it to the reunion/Bev's party, so, they are going to make up for it.  Party on.  Phil's mom is doing much better.  Her chemo is done and the cancer has shrunken in 1/2!  Amazing.  She'll be starting her radiation therapy shortly.  10-25-01

Rich Chatigny Takes Son Joe on Arizona Loop Vacation

Richard Chatigny is taking his oldest boy, uh, young man, Joe, on the Arizona loop this week, ending Monday.  Loop includes Zion, Bryce, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chey, etc. and ending up in sunny San Diego, where Joe Chatigny graduates one year early from high school.  I'm sure the touring group are enjoying themselves and haven't forgotten their family photo!  Rich has beat everyone on being the last holdup for current family photos.  Yes, another Kodak moment!  They even have signs around the loop that says 'Camera Shot', so, I'm sure we'll get some breath taking photos of the traveling gentlemen on cliffs, in canyons, and perched on top of tall rock formations.  Go get 'em Rich!  10-19-01

Bob Beall Going Through Reunion Withdrawals

Bob Beall is going through 'reunion' withdrawals and states that 'I feel that I should be looking for a picture to resize, locate or make an attachment for music.'  Whew, I thought he was serious for a moment.   Mega work!  We'll get him going on the 'Cartoon Corner', along with Tom Madigan to lighten our days.  Then, we'll have him check out the new 'Chat Room'.  And after that, of course, the old 'Photo Albums'.  I'd say look for Bob Beall here shortly.  I feel an up and rising super star.  PS. He states that the fall trees in Mammoth are spectacular and will be sending pictures.  10-19-01

Peter Anderegg Falls Through Window And Gets Badly Hurt

Peter Anderegg (Cathy (Carson's) husband) fell through a window yesterday and received 27 stitches, a broken toe and a little bit of hurt pride. He was fixing one of the storm windows and tried lifting it out from inside of the house instead of outside. Anyway, he's got a great Hallowe'en costume, now...Looks like a cross between "The English Patient" and Frankenstein! Other than that, all is going well here.   10-19-01

Cookie Bonjour

Two Senior Citizens Get Sick With Similar Illness
Senior citizens, Cookie Bonjour, 18 yr old Lasha Apso,  and Lisa Zazzi, 13 1/2 yr old Golden Retriever,  came down with some serious doggie illness last Thursday and Friday (Nov 11 and 12th).  They were both put on antibiotics and given shots of cortisone and sent home to the Bonjour and Zazzi Convalescent Hospitals where they were catered to and hugged and loved and pampered 24x7.  Daily messages, favorite home cooked 'people' food delivered 3 times daily, along with fresh bowls of water every hour.  Messages were given twice daily for the hips and lower back, and some walking and playing on the grassy area when they were feeling better.  If this is what going to the Convalescent Hospitals means, I suggest you check yourself into the Bonjours or the Zazzis, where catering is the order of the day.  I'm sure there is a waiting list, so you might want to call ahead.  This is better than dog heaven and most treatment in the 'people' Convalescent Hospitals.  PS. Both dogs are progressing nicely.  10-17-01

Lisa Zazzi

Bill Carle In the News With Hazardous Materials
Bill Carle was on the channel 5 news tonight because he is in the Hazardous Materials unit of the SFFD.  They have been really busy lately checking out all mysterious substances at City Hall , Airport, etc.  Remember, Mayor Willie Brown got an envelope today with a powdery substance and City Hall was closed for the rest of the day.  Bill is one busy guy.  These guys must be heavily trained because we never hear that they get sick, only the attended victims.  Great job today, Bill!  Yes, I recognized you.  You were the one in the blue body suit.  Next time wave to the camera!  Wow, our own local celebrity.  10-15-01

Bev's 75th and Reunion 2001

Everyone is receiving the much awaited reunion group photo.  Comments to far is that it was a great time had by all.  Again, our thanks to our host and hostess, Brian and Maggie Kelly, for inviting all of us and another huge birthday wish to our favorite aunt, Bev!  A truly momentous event.  10-15-01

Bob Beall Heads For Mammoth
Bob Beall heads off to Mammoth to enjoy the fall season, deliver firewood (getting ready for winter and hot toddies!), check on remodeling, and of course, his all time favorite, FISHING!  We've got some serious fishermen in our family.  Wonder what would happen if they all got together?  Bob Beall, Dick Nielsen, Richard Chatigny, and Dave Harding, who caught a 2 1/2 footer 3 months ago.  I think Bob should take 'em all on.  He's got every fishing hole down, not only in Mammoth, but in the surrounding areas as well.  I think he's also been practicing for a couple of years.  Now, the big question, where's Jerri?  Jerri got her promotion and is now principal of a school and has started school right after the renion (8-16-01 news).  10-3-01

Lynne Madigan Retires Today
Lynne Madigan retires TODAY, after 15 years of service with the Alameda Unified School District.  Looks like fun in the sun for Lynne and one happy retiree.   However, she'll be on her own until hubbie Tom retires this coming January 1, 2002,  which is only 3 months away.  Congratulations to our young retiree!  We wish you all the best!   -9-28-01

CUTE 'I had the most wonderful conversation with my John Paul last night before bed. He was talking about the reunion and told me that at one point there were 4 different kids playing ping-pong and Irene started talking about the t-shirts and how could she get a different color (like the purple). John Paul piped in that the colors signified the families and then John and Willie's youngest daughter (who had been playing w/them) piped in that she must be in the same family branch as John Paul and Madison (who was also there) because she had green on.  Then, John Paul told them to look at their name tags and notice the picture of Rita and Ted and that Tracy and Katie had Jack's picture on their name tag. He told them they were the big "8" and proceeded to name them. He asked me to clarify his order, but he had everyone right except Jack and Marion. Anyway, when I asked him how he knew , he told me he had been listening to everyone during the icebreaker game, etc. recite the big "8".   Anyway, I guess all of this was quite the revelation to the ping-pong crew and he said they all said, "Cool.....".   Funny what was going on while we adults were all busy chatting w/each other. Take care-Love, Kathy (Beall Frehner)'   -- Smart kid!   9-28-01

Andrew Zazzi Receives His Patent
Andrew Zazzi receives his patent for his snowboard invention.  This is one happy guy and looks like his business will soon take off.   He's been working on this for two years and looks like he will make this next fall with product.   Congratulations to Andrew!   And nothing like a little entrepreneur in the family.   9-26-01

75 Aunt Bev Celebrates Her 75th
Aunt Bev (Bev (Beall) Kempkey) celebrates her 75th birthday with all the descendants of the J.E. Colthurst family at the home of Brian and Maggie Kelly in Napa.  What a bash.  Each branch of the original 8 had a different color t-shirt along with nametags containing a picture of the ancestor.  That made it easy to tell who descended from who.  Cute idea.  The day was full of hugs and kisses, food and drink for all, and icebreaker games.  Before dinner, special awards were given to committee members, Game prizes, and two special relatives were honored: Bev Kempkey for having so many reunions at her house and keeping the family together for approximately 30 years,  and Sterling Colthurst, who has helped a great deal with the genealogy.  Sterling is the youngest of the original 8 and is currently living in the LA area.  After the awards, Bev was presented with her present, a huge birthday card (2 ft x 3 ft) signed by everyone in the J.E. Colthurst Family.  Kadoos were given to the guy who made printing this fantastic card a reality, Rich Chatigny.  The entire card was hand done by Rich and another owner of a printing company in Santa Rosa, CA.  After Bev received her present, the birthday cake arrived and Bev got to blow out a 7 and a 5 candle in no time.  Fun continued, the wine flowed, and hugs were given.   This was the biggest and nicest birthday bash I've ever seen.  Congratulations and Happy 75th to Beverly Kempkey!  (Note: The last time all the JEC descendants got together was 13 years ago, 1988, so this made this party extra special.  People flew or drove from all parts of the US for this special day.  Many made a 3 day vacation out of it.)   9-22-01

50

Nanci Beall Turns 50 In Style
Nanci Beall celebrated her big five ooooooh on Monday, Sep 10th, with several girl friends, Glory, Lea, & Carol.  The big bash was held at an Italian restaurant.  When asked what was the highlight of the evening, like maybe dancing on the tables, singing to the crowd, among other things, and Nanci just politely answered 'We had lots of garlic and came home after dinner'.  Whew.  You could have blown me away with that one!  Congratulations to our new AARP member.  Love to have you join the ranks with the rest of the elite! 9-10-01

Gloria Lamson Turns 76 And Enjoys Every Minute Of It

Alice Colthurst Jets To Wedding
Alice Colthurst is jetting to a wedding this coming weekend in her new neon Jetta on 101 (the main S.F. peninsula freeway).  The wedding is for a member of her family and is being held at Dave's restaurant at the Santa Clara Country Club next to Great America.  Wonder if Alice will be on the
'The Edge' this weekend, or  'The Drop Zone Stunt Tower', where one experiences the rush of gravity as you descend 22 stories in less than 4 seconds,  or maybe 'The Psycho Mouse', which is the latest and most zaniest N.CAL twisting coaster rides.  Yes, you're never too old!  Go Alice Go! - 8-30-01

Michelle Chatigny Jets To Australia

Michelle Chatigny jets again to Australia on business for a week, leaving early this morning from Las Vegas.  The professional traveler has been so busy lately that she can't seem to get through her personal inbox, let alone her professional.  And we thought we had it bad.  However, I'm sure if you corner her at the reunion and write down your wish list for trinkets from Australia,  she'd be glad to oblige.  Make sure you have $ in hand and your mailing address. - 8-23-01

Reunion 2001 Rumor
Rumor has it that the current first and second place winners of the Reunion 2001 Games are taking the Games seriously.  The third place winner has now joined the competitiveness of the games and is proving to be a strong contender for 2nd place.  However, the undercurrent may have some serious mob backing which may effect our current first place winner.  Although petitioning for Rick's points as next of kin, if it's not in Rick's will, the points are forfeited.  A gutsy move for our current first place winner considering several threats.  Let's hope that these are only threats and we don't have a few broken arms and legs at the reunion.  Rough crowd out there.  - 8-23-01

Kristian Beall's 9th Birthday Celebrated in Style
Richard and Lollie, Kathy and Bernard, and David and Tiffany and all their kids are taking a family break and going to California Adventure (new Disney Park) tomorrow, Aug 23, to celebrate Kristian's 9th birthday.  Now, that's what I call a special birthday.  Happy 9th Birthday, Kristian! - 8-23-01

Monique and Jules Jet to Tucson Next Weekend
Monique and Jules are jet setting to Tucson next weekend to attend the private H.R. Hubert III's (of N.Y. fame) wedding.  Since Monique is on this book charity, assume she'll be bringing several hard bound books in her carry-on to catch up on her reading before the deadline of 92 books by the end of August. - 8-23-01

Another AARP Member Strikes Again

Suzanne Zazzi left her house to run errands for the first time in a month.  She was to get the prizes for the first, second, and third place winners of the Reunion 2001 Games.  While in Vallco Fashion Park mall in Cupertino, she said she stopped to buy a 'hell of a deal' cell phone from what she thought was 'Cingular Wireless', changed her mind, and tried to return everything 15 minutes later, including the 1 year contract, and was denied.  Turns out it was 'Mobile Systems Wireless' and they had a real racket going.  Suzanne contacted 'Cingular Wireless', Vallco Fashion Park mall management, and ABC News, Robert Finney's ''7 on your side' in San Francisco today.  Meanwhile, she's been busy refuting the charge on her credit card and placing 'consumer alerts' on all major credit checking of her social, driver's license, and credit report.  Tomorrow, she states, 'I'll be talking to the Better Business Bureau and the District Attorney's office in Cupertino, CA."  Go get 'em tiger!  Looks like she's after some raw meat.  Meanwhile, 'Mobile Systems Wireless' may want to pack up their tepee and move elsewhere.  Looks like the AARP members strike again.  - 8-23-01

Cathy and Peter Anderegg Together Again
Cathy Anderegg will be joined by hubbie Peter this Saturday, while the movers are packing and moving her belongings.  Then she, Peter, and doggie Denali will button up their overcoats and start their drive to Bellingham and take the ferry to Juneau.  They are all looking forward to the trip and will try and send photos.  Doggie Max is waiting anxiously in Juneau for their arrival.  Have a wonderful trip Cathy and Peter and Denali! - 8-23-01

Lollie's Mom Worsens

Lollie's mother has taken a turn for the worse.  (Lollie is married to Richard Beall).  Please remember Lollie's mother and Richard and Lollie in your prayers. - 8-22-01

Monique Bonjour is now bouncing between our reunion and her other charities.  She's currently working on a book charity (fund raiser) so you might say she is overbooked but actually she is over extended.  Personally, she states 'I'm on the cutting edge'....or is that really the edge? - 8-22-01

Alice Payne Colthurst is nursing her sick brother, who is staying at her house.  She's working with him to get him to go through physical therapy, which he doesn't want to do.  I'm sure the AARP members can totally sympathize, along with being totally tied down.  - 8-22-01

Mary and Dave Harding Celebrate their 25th Anniversary

Mary (Chatigny) and Dave Harding celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on August 28th.  They are leaving for Hawaii, just the two of them, this Friday, Aug 24, and returning Sep 1, 2001.  Happy 25th, Mary and Dave!  Rumor has it that Mary got all the questions verbally for the next Game and has printed out the Members page along with several Family websites with BIOS information to work on the answers.  Happy second honeymoon to you two and make sure you get your answers in by 5PM next Saturday! - 8-22-01

Tom and Alice Colthurst Christmas Plans
Tom and Alice Colthurst are sorting out their East Coast Christmas holiday plans.  Two of their sons, Thomas and Chris, are obligated part of the time to be at Karen's and Lara's (Chris's wife) parents' places.  However, since Tom, Alice, and Irené have never done Christmas on the East coast, they are now looking to be in Boston, since that appears  to have the biggest dining room.  That's a big change from sunny San Diego, sand, and palm trees after all these years.  Mitts, hats, scarves, down jackets and boots will be the order of the day besides the large dining room.  Enjoy the snow and keep us posted, especially if we can get a great Christmas photo of all of you! - 8-19-01

Jerri Beall gets Promoted
Jerri Beall (as in Bob and Jerri) is getting a promotion to a school principal.  Although it is supposed to be a temporary assignment for a few months, it is her time to shine.  Way to go, Jerri!  Meanwhile, Bob is heading to Mammoth for a few weeks since he lost his wife to her career.  - 8-16-01

Cathy and Peter Anderegg Soon to Unite

Cathy Carson Anderegg has accepted a fantastic job (an offer she couldn't refuse) in Juneau, Alaska on August 15, 2001.  She currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, and will now be rejoined with husband Peter and their other dog, they have two.  She will have only 3 weeks to move from Arizona to Alaska, but is far too happy and positive which makes the move almost incidental. - 8-15-01

Glory Beall experienced some chest pains at the boat event in Tahoe and went to the hospital to get it checked out.  Close relatives feel is was do to too much partying during Wood and Boat Week at Lake Tahoe.  Glory laughs it off and is back partying. Typical behavior for the AARP members. - 8-8-01
